Founder James Johnson spent years in the corporate world, running a renewables business, but eventually found himself burnt out and disillusioned. At the same time, his wife was navigating a long and complex health journey — facing challenges that the conventional medical system struggled to solve. Together, they turned to food not just for comfort, but for healing.
Through deeply personal experiences and a series of life-altering events, James’ path shifted in unexpected ways. It was during a visit to the south Pacific — invited to help revitalise the local cacao industry — that he discovered something remarkable. Among the lush farms, vibrant cacao pods, and warm-hearted growers, he found not just a superfood, but a sense of purpose.
That moment was the seed for Better Bean: a brand rooted in the belief that real nourishment comes from real food, and that wellness can be both delicious and deeply restorative.
Cacao became more than an ingredient — it became a way through. A way to honour the past, support the present, and build something meaningful for the future.
